Today I'm going to make you think for a moment about losing your job. Not a nice thought I know, but please bear with me. Do not make decisions that are not yours to make.

When making a decision you are simply choosing from among alternatives. You are not making a choice between right and wrong.

Avoid snap decisions. Move fast on the reversible ones and slowly on the non-reversible.

Choosing the right alternative at the wrong time is not any better than the wrong alternative at the right time, so make the decision while you still have time.

Do your decision making on paper. Make notes and keep your ideas visible so you can consider all the relevant information in making this decision.

Be sure to choose based on what is right, not who is right.

Write down the pros and cons of a line of action. It clarifies your thinking and makes for a better decision.

Make decisions as you go along. Do not let them accumulate. A backlog of many little decisions could be harder to deal with than one big and complex decision.

Consider those affected by your decision. Whenever feasible, get them involved to increase their commitment.

Recognize that you cannot know with 100% certainty that your decision is correct because the actions to implement it are to take place in the future. So make it and don't worry about it.

Use the O. A. R. approach in decision making. Look at O, Objectives you are seeking to attain, A, the Alternatives you sense are available to you and R, the risk of the alternative you are considering.

It has been said that a decision should always be made at the lowest possible level and as close to the scene of action as possible. However, a decision should always be made at a level insuring that all activities and objectives affected are fully considered. The first rule tells us how far down a decision should be made. The second how far down it can be made.

Remember that not making a decision is a decision not to take action.

To be effective a manager must have the luxury of having the right to be wrong.

Trust yourself to make a decision and then to be able to field the consequences appropriately.

Don't waste your time making decisions that do not have to be made.

Determine alternative courses of action before gathering data.

Before implementing what appears to be the best choice, assess the risk by asking "What can I think of that might go wrong with this alternative ?"

Many decisions you make are unimportant-about 80% of them. Establish operating limits and let your secretary or others make them for you.

Consider making the decision yourself in lieu of a group, but recognize the potential for less commitment by those affected.

As part of your decision making process, always consider how the decision is to be implemented.

As soon as you are aware that a decision will have to be made on a specific situation, review the facts at hand then set it aside. Let this incubate in your subconscious mind until it is time to finally make the decision.

Five Ways In Which You Can Save Success From Failure

Things are going great for you. Your life is amazing. Things just could not be better, and then BOOM! Something happens to take the rug out from under you. You may be afraid, confused, angry, or all of the above and more. What you really need to though is figure out what went wrong. Just follow these five steps, and you will be back on your way, better than ever:

1. Take a step back

Any time things are going badly, the first thing you should do is just simply take a step back and re-evaluate the situation. Look closely at not only what has gone wrong, but what has gone right as well. Above all though, take a deep breath and realize that chances are decent that you can fix things. Being able to do this and change your attitude to a positive one is a very important first step.

2. Ask someone else's opinion

This can be difficult to do. You may already be feeling bad about how things are, and now I am asking you to put your faults in front of someone. The hardest part though is not how you feel about things, but finding someone who you know will give you an honest, unbiased opinion on the situation. If you have a mentor, this would be an ideal person to talk to. Remember though, that it is their opinion, and whatever they say you must listen, even if it is something you don't want to hear.

3. Ask for help

This could be something as simple as helping you get re-organized, or it could be borrowing money, asking for someone's time, or any other number of things. Realize that most people are willing to help others. Most importantly though, do not forget to do the same when others approach you in the future. Follow the Golden Rule. It is as simple as that.

4. What have you learned?

After everything else, look back on the situation again. What lessons have you learned? What things would you not do again? What things would you do more of? What people were there to help and in what capacity? What people were not? If we do not learn from our mistakes, we are then doomed to repeat them continuously. What have you learned?

5. Try again

Take another shot. There is almost always one more thing you can try, one more avenue to pursue. And if you fail again, you go through the process again. You never truly fail until you stop trying to succeed. This is very important to remember. So much so that I would say if you take nothing else from this article, please remember this!

So remember, take a step back, ask someone else's opinion, ask for help, figure out what you have learned, and then try again. Following these steps may not make things perfect, but they will clear your head and get you back on the road to success again, which of course is where you really deserve to be, now is it not?

I went recently to see the movie 'The Pursuit of Happiness'; if you haven't seen it, please go, it is great. It could be the story of so many of us and it is about some of the most important qualities we need in order to succeed and be happy.

It begins with a dream...well it is a dream we all have...to be happy...a good life...but for some people, maybe someone you know, maybe you, it seems that things do not really work out, and difficulties keep coming up.

Maybe you have experienced a difficult beginning in life, and you feel this is still preventing you from being the best you can be, and you feel disadvantaged, scarred. Or maybe you have experienced in the course of your life pain, redundancy, loss, separation, or else, and you feel that your energy is depleted.

And what happens to many of us after a while that we keep 'struggling', the mind might begin to become negative and there might be the temptation to give in to difficulties. And maybe we start looking at other people, at people who are happier or more successful than us and we feel envious, but this does not help.

What helps instead is looking for successful people who have beaten the odds, who have overcome maybe the same past, maybe the same problems, and achieved what you want to achieve, and learn from them, because if you apply to your life, remaining true to yourself, what they have done, you will get where they are and have what they have, happiness and success. It is simply a question of learning their strategies.

And one of the qualities you will see in all of these people, and you will see also in the movie, is the tenacity, the determination, the persistence to never ever give up, no matter what, and to keep following your dreams.

So, once you know your dreams, once you know what you really want, just go for it, and never ever give it up. Be prepared to put in a lot of effort, because that is the price you need to pay at the beginning for having it all. And once you have made a start everything will become much easier.

Another very important thing you need to do is have faith.

There is such an extraordinary power within you that wants the very best for you; that wants you to be well and be happy; that wants you to have in your life all the love you desire and deserve; that wants you to be successful; that wants you to create and live the life of your dreams.

And once you know what this power is, you will be able to heal yourself, to create, attract and manifest in your life anything that you truly want. But you need to know how to use it properly, because otherwise it simply creates what you do not want.

And then you will see that actually what you thought of as disadvantages, the difficulties in your life, have become your advantage, because they have enabled you to be the best you can be; they have enabled you to achieve what some people only dream of.

But in order to get there, you need never ever to give up. You need to keep going even when the going gets tough, because you are made of strong stuff.

I know you are certainly not a quitter, you are a winner, and I have the certainty you will be able to create and achieve whatever it is that you truly want. It is just a question of learning how the Laws of the Universe really work and you are already there.

And you are going to make of your life a true masterpiece that reflects who you really are.

Many people like to add a slogan or logo to their card as well.

6. Others
